According to Naogaon municipality, contractor Mithu of Messrs Jim Enterprise got the work order from the municipality in 2019-20 fiscal year, to carpet the 1.5 kilometer road in Boalia village, Ward 7

Substandard and less materials are reportedly being used in the construction of a 1.5 kilometer road at a cost of Tk 7,875,200 in Boalia village under  Naogaon municipality  in the district.

According to Naogaon municipality, contractor Mithu of Messrs Jim Enterprise got the work order from the municipality in 2019-20 fiscal year, to carpet the 1.5 kilometer road in Boalia village, Ward 7 .

Locals say  the contractor is using low quality bricks to carpet the  road stretching from Koigari to the Amkoli intersection of the village in the municipality.

Residents of the municipality also said they have submitted several complaints to the authorities concerned to put a stop to this unethical act.  However, their efforts have fallen on deaf ears.

Expressing resentment, Ajharul Alom of the area said that when he protested the  thievery of the enterprise for the first time, the contractor assured him it will not happen again. Later, the contractor threatened him with dire consequences.

Another resident, Sajedul Islam complained they   are deprived of many opportunities despite being residents of the municipality area. “Bricks below   standard quality are being used to carpet the roads and the contractor has turned a blind eye to our complaints.”

Contacted, contractor Mithu denied the allegations saying that they are working according to the work order and engineers are overseeing our activities regularly.

Reached for comment, Nijamul Haque, Assistant Engineer of Naogaon Miniciplity said: ” We are monitoring the work on a regular basis. Although, we see there is no problem, the contractor has been asked to carry out the task with integrity.”

Naogaon municipility Mayor Najmul Haque Sony, who is currently in Dhaka, said: ‘We are informed of the matter and have asked the Executive Engineer of the municipality to investigate the reported allegations.”
